How the calculator works
The calculator starts from the price ranges AI data buyers publish, combines them into ranges by company size and status, then uses your answers to place you within them.
- Your status and headcount choose the range for companies like yours, based on the prices buyers publish.
- Your years of records, the systems you used, the type of work and whether your accounts are still active decide where you sit in that range.
- The result is shown in pounds, converted from US dollars at $1 = £0.75 on 19 October 2026.
| People, now or at peak | Trading company | Closed or insolvent |
|---|---|---|
| Under 20 | Below most buyers' published minimums | Below most buyers' published minimums |
| 20 to 49 | $20,000 to $150,000 | $10,000 to $75,000 |
| 50 to 249 | $100,000 to $1,000,000 | $40,000 to $300,000 |
| 250+ | $500,000 to $2,000,000+ | $150,000 to $1,000,000+ |
Our ranges are based on published figures: Replay's bands of $10,000 to $100,000 for 20 to 50 staff, $100,000 to $1m for 50 to 250 and $1m+ above that; micro1's tiers from $100,000 for companies with 30 or more staff; Handshake AI's $100,000 to $4m+ for companies with 20 or more full-time staff and 3 or more years in operation; and typical payouts of $10,000 to $100,000 per company in SimpleClosure's deals for shut-down startups, as reported by Forbes. We set closed-company ranges lower because a buyer gets one archive and no ongoing supply, and the closed-company payouts reported so far are smaller.
What moves the value
- Years of history. More years mean more examples of how work is done.
- Team size. More people mean more conversations, decisions and variety.
- The range of systems. Email with chat, documents and tickets shows work from request to result.
- The type of work. Specialist work that is rare in public data is worth more.
- Whether the records still exist. Value disappears when accounts close.
Our guide to what your company's data is worth explains each factor, with the deals reported so far.
What the range is not
It is not an offer or a valuation. Buyers price each dataset on their own estimate of how many useful training tasks it can produce, so two buyers can quote very different figures for the same records. A real valuation starts with a short description of your records, which we prepare with you for free. Get a free valuation.
Questions
How accurate is the calculator?
It shows a range based on the prices buyers publish for companies like yours, narrowed by your answers. Real offers can sit above or below it, and every offer depends on a buyer's review of your records.
Why is there no figure for companies with fewer than 20 staff?
Most buyers that publish a minimum headcount set it at 20 staff or more. Some accept smaller specialist firms, so talk to us if your team is small but specialist.
Do I have to give my email address?
No. Your range shows straight away. You can ask for the report by email if you want a copy.
Why is the range in pounds?
Buyers publish their prices in US dollars. We convert them at $1 = £0.75, the rate on 19 October 2026.
What happens if I ask for a valuation?
We use your answers, check public records for your company and arrange a confidential call. No files or logins are needed to start.
